Shirt: Columbia 18/19 Home

Album: None

Did you know that Pablo Escobar at his drug lord peak was earning so much money that he had to spend $3000 dollars every month just buying elastic bands to wrap wads of his money up?

Not that he would’ve noticed, his cartel was supposedly netting $420 million every week, the kind of cash that lets you get away with murder. Literally, in his case. He was estimated to have killed 4000 people, but when Columbian authorities caught him, he said he wanted to build his own prison. And they let him. The resulting compound made Haven look like a POW camp, it had a nightclub, sauna, waterfall(!) and its own football pitch.

And when he fancied a kickabout on that field, all he had to do was pick up the phone, and shortly after, the Columbian men’s national team would turn up for a game of 5 a side.

You might be wondering why we’re three paragraphs in and I haven’t mentioned the shirt yet, but that’s because you’ve all seen it before. A lot of you have probably owned or do own it. It’s Columbia’s 18/19 home shirt and all told, it’s quite nice.

Its based on Adidas’ Columbia away shirt from Italia ‘90 and I feel like 28 years is a respectful amount of time to leave a design before revisiting. Back then Columbia used red as their home colour, before switching to yellow the following year and staying there ever since.

Yes, shirt today’s choice was deliberate. Just like the football leagues break out yellow footballs for snow, I picked a bright yellow shirt to make me more visible. Didn’t keep me any warmer, mind you, but at least I didn’t get lost.

So there you have it. The weather here couldn’t be any further from Columbia’s national daily average of 23c, but I’ll bet Pablo saw more snow.

Shirt Rating: 6/10
