Shirt: Liverpool 95/96 Goalkeeper (Home)
Album: A Heroes Death, Fontaines D.C.
Thank you to @footythreads_ie on Twitter for the choices!

I think if you distill the 90s into one shirt, this would be it. Teal with purple highlights, and a pattern like a Keith Haring fever dream it’s everything that’s right about goalkeeper shirts.
The theory behind a wild goalkeeper shirt is that it subconsciously encourages a striker to aim at the kit rather than the goal and this shirt is so loud I’m surprised it didn’t pull planets into its orbit.
The fly in the ointment is that the top seems to be hewn from a combination of burlap sack and human hair, making a fabric so itchy that the UN are considering outlawing the shirt lest it be used as a torture device.

Now you might think that a shirt this wild and colourful would be better suited with a psychedelic, LSD-soaked album. Something by Jimi Hendrix or The Doors. Instead, we pair it with the sober, brooding second album from Dublin band Fontaines D.C.
This is definitely an album of two halves. The first half is thoughtful and dark, the coarse vocals of the lead singer giving texture to the tracks. It has a lot to say, and does it all with a kind of self reflective angst. However the second half does slow the pace right down, the last 2 tracks in particular almost bring everything to a halt. But overall it’s got enough charisma to warrant a re-listen.
Shirt Rating: 7/10 (design is 10/10, but the shirt is too itchy)
Album Rating: 7/10
